We are very proud of our bonnet-making heritage as it is where our business first began back in 1845. Traditional Scottish bonnets trace their origins to the early ceremonial headwear of the Scottish regiments and over the years we have supplied leading pipe bands and Scottish Clan organisations around the world.
Unfortunately, as for many in the industry, there has been a significant decrease in the demand for these high quality, handmade, traditional bonnets. Early last year we had to make the very difficult decision to stop production.
Robert Mackie of Scotland have passed the manufacturing and distribution of Balmorals and Glengarrys to House of Tartan.
House of Tartan are based in Crieff but are exploring the possibility of establishing a “Bonnet Factory” in Stewarton, the Bonnet Toun. We are in the process of passing over all the techniques acquired over many years of bonnet making to House of Tartan who will continue this proud tradition.
